Diane Twickler, M.D., FACR
“Service to others can be very personally rewarding.”

Contributions to STEMM

As a Professor of Radiology and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Twickler spends her days “performing imaging studies with ultrasound and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the fetus, placenta, and obstetrical complications, as well as gynecologic studies in uterine and ovarian cancers.” As an educator, she teaches sonographers, medical students, residents, and fellows in Women’s Imaging.

Taking Risks

“Attending high school in the ’60s and ’70s, the roles for women in medicine were very limited, and did not typically include becoming a doctor,” Dr. Twickler said. She credits her mentors for their commitment to advocacy in the face of these challenges.

“Thank goodness for dedicated teachers who encouraged me to have higher aspirations and find reward in serving others.”

The UT Southwestern Difference

“My job allows me to wear several hats, which is the best part,” she said. “Being able to help patients through their pregnancies by assuring them of their fetus’ normal growth and development by ultrasound, training all levels of students in the skill of ultrasound and MR imaging, sharing our knowledge and findings with others through publications, and mentoring our talented junior faculty in clinical research are all very rewarding endeavors for me.”
